(The standing action on June 4 was cancelled due to rain.)
We will be holding a standing protest against the JOC to demand the immediate cancellation of the Tokyo Olympics at Harumi Triton every Friday from 6:30pm in June!
The COVID-19 pandemic has not yet shown any signs of ending, and the emergency declaration and measures to prevent the spread of the disease will continue after June. The medical workplace is already nearing the limit of its ability to respond to COVID-19, and there is no time to give priority to Olympic and Paralympic officials. We believe that the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics should be cancelled as soon as possible, and that people, money, and time should be invested in the medical field and people in need due to corona.
However, Japanese politicians and IOC officials seem to have only their own interests at heart, and they even made the outrageous statement that it is possible to hold the Tokyo Olympics even under a declared state of emergency. With the declaration of a state of emergency, the daily lives of our citizens are being restricted in various ways, especially the restaurant industry is being forced to close down, and even suicides are occurring. In the medical workplace, there is no time to give priority to those involved in the Olympics.
In spite of this, we are afraid that the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics may be forced to be held in Japan, given the rampant use of such heartless comments. We will raise our voices in front of the Organizing Committee every Friday in June, as we did in April and May, in order not to allow such “Operation Imphal” and to realize its immediate cancellation.
We are also calling for people in other areas to raise their voices simultaneously at Friday actions in June. Citizens in Nagano Prefecture have already informed us of their plans for Friday actions.
Now is the time to unite the many voices calling for the cancellation of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, and make it happen immediately!
