No to IOC President Thomas Bach’s theft of Hiroshima and Nagasaki’s “anti-nuclear peace” ideals!

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach, dubbed the “Baron of Rip-off” by the U.S. media, has had enough of plundering the tax revenues of the Japanese government and the Tokyo metropolitan government for his own organization. They are trying to steal the historical aspirations of the hibakusha of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, who have struggled for the abolition of nuclear weapons, in order to cover up the ugly nature of the modern Olympic Games which are mired in profit. To that end, it is being reported that President Bach and IOC Vice President John Coates are scheduled to visit Hiroshima and Nagasaki, respectively, on July 16. So much so that our anger has already reached a boiling point.

The reason cited for the choice of this date is that it falls on the start of the “Olympic ceasefire” set by the United Nations. However, this date marks the 76th anniversary of the world’s first nuclear test, the so-called Trinity Test, which took place in 1945 in New Mexico, USA. Less than 20 days after the test, the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki took place, slaughtering not only the Japanese, but also many Koreans, Chinese,

Taiwanese, and people of various nationalities, including American soldiers and other prisoners of war. The U.S. still refuses to acknowledge the guilt of this unprecedented genocide, which claimed more than half a million victims.

President Bach’s use of the image of a “peaceful world without nuclear weapons” to justify holding the Olympics under COVID-19 is an affront to the hibakusha, and this kind of behavior will do more harm than good to the global movement to abolish nuclear weapons. It is the best evidence of above mentioned fact that the Japanese government, which stubbornly refuses to sign the Nuclear Weapons Convention ratified by more than 50 countries and entered into force on January 22 this year, has welcomed the visit of the IOC officials to the A-bombed city.
